Project Refugee Smiles is an international dental relief initiative that provided urgent oral healthcare and education to Syrian refugees and displaced families in Turkey and Jordan.
From 2015–2017, volunteer dentists, students, and community partners set up temporary clinics in schools, community centers, and refugee camps—meeting people where they were, and restoring not only teeth, but dignity and hope.

Our Legacy: A Commitment to Service
Project Refugee Smiles grew directly from Deah and Yusor’s vision: to use dentistry as a means of mercy, especially for refugees who had lost almost everything.
Partnership with SAMS Dental (2015–2016):
Volunteers transformed classrooms at Al-Salaam School into functioning dental clinics, offering fillings, extractions, cleanings, and pain relief for hundreds of students and families each year.
Launching the Dental Arm of AHR (2017):
In 2017, dental services were incorporated into Atlantic Humanitarian Medical Relief’s multi-disciplinary mission for the very first time, creating a dedicated dental team alongside medical, surgical, ophthalmological, psychological, and humanitarian services.
Ajloun Dental Clinic Dedication:
A permanent dental clinic in Ajloun, Jordan, serving refugees on an ongoing basis, was dedicated in honor of Deah, Yusor, and Razan, carrying their names and spirit forward in daily service.
See The Impact
Across three missions, Project Refugee Smiles:
- Delivered urgent dental procedures for children and adults who had often waited years to see a dentist.
- Provided education on oral hygiene and preventive care in schools, camps, and orphanages.
- Helped equip and support local dentists and clinics, including Ajloun Dental Clinic, to continue providing care long after volunteers returned home.
In the 2017 Jordan mission alone, dental teams served patients across multiple cities and camps, including Ajloun, Irbid, Mafraq, Zaatari, Al-Azraq, and scattered informal camps, treating hundreds of patients and leaving behind strengthened local capacity.
PRS 2017 Mission Summary
Project Refugee Smiles is more than a series of trips; it is a living expression of Deah, Yusor, and Razan’s belief that every person deserves to be seen, cared for, and able to smile without pain.
