Ana Yeli Ruiz is a Master of Public Policy student at the School of Public Policy, UC Riverside, with an interest in criminal justice policy and poverty and inequality. As a first-generation immigrant, she grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, IL, where her adversities propelled her to join the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon the completion of her 4 years of service, Ana earned her B.A. in Sociology from the University of San Diego. She continued to serve over 1,300 students in leadership development in the San Diego region while working with the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs, a San Diego non-profit. In the future, she hopes to run for public office and help create equitable policies.
